The products we offer fall primarily into four material types:
Cultured Marble, Cultured Granite, Cultured Onyx Cultured Marble, Cultured Granite and Cultured Onyx, while man-made, have the look of genuine marble, granite or onyx. Products in this category are manufactured by spraying a "gel coat" on top of a mold that is contoured to the shape of the desired product. Once the "gel coat" has cured, a mixture of resin, pigment, and crushed calcium carbonate are cast on top of the "gel coat". "Veigning" of the pigment is created by hand or by machine, creating the look of a natural stone. . Cultured marble, granite and onyx products easily meet nationally-recognized standards to resist water, heat, stains, burns, chemicals and everyday wear and tear.Cultured Marble is a Cultured marble, also referred to as engineered marble, is a type of fabricated surface that resembles marble. It is available in many colors. Cultured marble is a mixture of resin and ground marble or limestone. Though it is a less expensive alternative to natural marble, it can provide more tensile strength. Because cultured marble is made with a moulding process, it allows greater design flexibility than with stone. For instance, manufacturers of cultured marble can make a bathroom vanity with integrated bowl (or bowls). This eliminates grout lines around the bowl. The manufacturing process encompasses several steps. One step uses a non-porous gelcoat on the counters and sinks which seals the product and prevents mold and bacteria growth and staining. The process does not use hazardous material Solid Surface Solid Surface is a man made product that is produced by many manufactures such as such as DuPont Corian, LG Hi Mac , Avonite, Formica Solid Surface, Wilsonart Gibraltor, Staron and Meganite are some of the sheet goods providers. Carolina Custom Surface’s has its own product called Carolite that is used for custom colors and various custom applications. Solid Surface is a non-porous product that resists bacteria growth and stains. Since the color and pattern go all the way through the material, the surface can be easily renewed. Seams, while very inconspicuous, are not always totally invisible but mechanically as strong as the material itself. Certain solid surface colors, especially colors with heavy particulates and directional patterns or dark surfaces, tend to make the seams more visible. Solid Surface is composed of acrylic polymer or ployester polymers and sometimes a combination of the two along with alumina trihydrate. Its primary use is for countertops, but is also commonly used as a wall cladding in moisture applications (wet walls). Solid surface materials are very versitile and can be joined, shaped and finished to create many products.
Natural Stone (Granites & Marbles) Granite is a natural product. It is available in a large variety of colors and patterns. Granite is quarried in its natural form directly from the earth and is cut and processed by machine into slabs then provided to fabricators in slab form. Because of its extreme hardness and mineral content, granite can be polished to a mirror-like finish using proper machinery and sealers. Natural Granite has a unique fingerprint of color and pattern in each slab. This random appearance creates a distinct beauty for each section of countertop. However, this uniqueness means that there may be color and pattern variations in adjoining sections even if they are cut out of the same slab. The difference is especially apparent where two pieces form a 90 degree corner. Sections of countertop are bonded together and the seams are readily visible. Stacked edges will also show a visible seam. Granite is extremely hard and has excellent stain, chemical and heat resistance. Granite, because it is a natural substance, contains varying degrees of porosity and fissures (small cracks). For this reason, granite countertops must be periodically sealed. When properly maintained, the beauty and integrity of granite tops are enduring. Natural Quartz or Engineered Stone Quartz or engineered stone is a man made product that is produced my many manufactures such as DuPont Zodiaq, Hanstone, Cambria, LG Viatera, Silestone, and Ceaserstone. Quartz Surface is a blend of 93% quartz crystals with a polymer that adds color and strength. The polymer makes the surface non-porous avoiding the requirement for sealing. Quartz surface is exceptionally hard and has excellent stain, chemical and heat resistance. It is fabricated and handled just like Natural Stones (Granites) and Marble slab material and fabricated and installed similarly. The pattern is very consistent when compared to natural stone which allows selection to be made from a sample rather than having to select the actual slab. As with solid surface countertops, the materials are prefabricated and installed by professionals.
